Man arrested after father’s charred body found in back yard

Police in the northern Athens district of Ano Liosia have arrested a man after finding the charred body of his elderly father in a yard at the back of a house.
Officers were alerted to the scene by neighbors, who complained of a stench coming from the property.
When police arrived at the building, the 59-year-old son refused to let them in, saying his father had been taken to an institution or was being cared for by a relative.
When police finally gained access to the property, they found the charred remains of the man’s father on a burned mattress in the yard.
The investigation is ongoing.
