Student protests to private university bill continue in Athens, Thessaloniki

Members of the student associations of Athens occupied the Rectorate of the University of Athens on Thursday, as protests around the country mount in response to a government bill allowing the establishment of private universities.

In Thessaloniki, students blocked the main entrances of the Aristotle University. Holding banners with slogans against the operation of private universities, protesters gathered in front of the barrier gates on the main road of the campus, at the junction of Egnatia and Agios Dimitrios Streets, as well as at the entrances around the perimeter of the university.

In the afternoon, students will march to the city center of Thessaloniki, with the rally point at Kamara Square.

The draft bill is expected to be voted on Friday.
