Mitsotakis in Doha to discuss Gaza, Red Sea with Emir of Qatar
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is in Doha on Saturday where he is meeting with the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al Thani, to discuss the situation in the Gaza Strip and the problems caused by the disruption of safe navigation in the Red Sea.
Expanded talks between the delegations of the two countries will follow.
Mitsotakis arrived in Doha on Friday, in a stopover while returning from an official visit to India.
The Ambassador of Qatar to Greece, Ali bin Khalfan Al Mansouri, noted the importance of the Greek premier’s visit for bilateral relations in a statement to the state-run news agency AMNA, noting Qatar’s strong desire to strengthen and expand cooperation with Greece.
“The two countries are recording steady economic growth and there is a mutual desire and wide-ranging potential for developing partnerships, especially in the sectors of energy, investments, trade, transport, culture, education, tourism and sport,” the ambassador said.
“[The visit] is very important as it confirms the will of the two countries to strengthen their bilateral relations and their desire to extend and deepen their cooperation into sectors and horizons, with the aim of promoting the interests of the two friendly nations and enhancing regional and international peace and security,” the ambassador said.
