Democrats Abroad organize primary in Athens and Thessaloniki
The Democrats Abroad Global Presidential Primary kicks off on March 5, as Democrats Abroad members around the world participate in selecting the Democratic Party candidate for president for the 2024 General Election this November.
Democrats Abroad Greece will run two voting centres to help Americans living in Greece cast their votes.
In Thessaloniki, the polls will be open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on March 5 at the Dukakis Center, American College of Thessaloniki (17 Sevenidi Street) and in Athens in Athens from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on March 10 at the Athens Centre (48 Archimidous Street).
Worldwide results will be announced after voting closes on March 12.
Democrats Abroad is the official Democratic Party arm for the millions of Americans living outside the United States. Like its state parties, it runs a presidential primary every four years so that it can send committed and uncommitted delegates to the Democratic National Convention in Chicago in August.
Americans living abroad who will be 18 or older as of November 5, 2024, are eligible to vote in the Global Presidential Primary. Voting is restricted to members of Democrats Abroad, but registration as a member is possible on the spot.
Votes can also be cast remotely by email, postal mail or fax, with an online voter registration tool – votefromabroad.org – makes it easy to request a ballot and vote absentee from any place on the planet.
The voting center is an excellent opportunity to meet motivated US voters and to discuss political and community issues with the Democrats Abroad Greece executive committee and volunteers.
“At stake in the upcoming US presidential elections is not just who will occupy the White House, but also America’s future role in the world. Rarely have Americans been faced with such a stark choice,” says Brady Kiesling, Democrats Abroad Greece Executive Committee Chairman.
“Tens of thousands of American citizens whose home is Greece should show they stand for democracy. The birthplace of democracy has a role to play and a clear choice to make.”
