Experts seek ways to boost IT graduate numbers

Faced with a dearth of IT graduates required for the local market, experts have proposed a set of measures aimed at improving graduation rates. These measures, presented at an event in Athens on Tuesday, include offering tutorials and workshops for essential subjects, led by prospective doctoral candidates or outstanding graduates, with their contributions factored into the final grades; appointing an academic adviser for each student; evaluating exam participation and failure rates, gauging the difficulty of subjects, and updating course content; providing tailored support for students experiencing financial challenges; and strengthening internships.

According to data presented at the event, in 2022, a total of 5,231 IT students graduated from 37 university departments, resulting in a graduation rate of 62 percent. To meet the growing demand, the Greek IT market is estimated to require an extra 7,500 IT graduates annually.
