Paris court to decide on Greek’s extradition to US

The decision of the French judges on the US request for the extradition of Greek businessman Nikos Bogonikolos is expected on Wednesday in Paris. Bogonikolos, who is completing six months in detention in Paris, is accused by the FBI of sending dual-use civilian and military technological equipment to Russia in violation of sanctions imposed on the Kremlin following the invasion of Ukraine.

Bogonikolos was arrested on May 9 on an international warrant from the US, which has since sought his extradition.

The decision of the French judicial authorities was originally expected in September, but the prosecutor of the Paris Court of Appeal delayed the procedure. According to sources from the businessman’s defense, he argued that the US request lacked sufficient information and clarification on the extent of the sentence that he would face if he were brought before US courts, as well as the facts that led to his arrest and detention.
