Beleri trial postponed again for October 24
The trial of the mayor-elect of Himare in southern Albania, Fredi Beleri, and his associate Pantelis Kokavesis, which was scheduled to begin at a special anti-corruption court in Tirana on Tuesday was postponed for the second time in two weeks, according to state-run broadcaster ERT.
At the start of the trial, the judges accepted the request from Beleri’s defense attorney to exempt one of its three members, while a second judge was replaced after she asked for time to study the case file.
The court did not rule on Beleri’s other preliminary request to dismiss the entire case because, according to the defense, the evidence was insufficient and was collected illegally.
Beleri did not attend the trial, which lasted only a few minutes.
