Thessaly a ‘wound,’ says newly elected governor
The newly elected regional governor of Thessaly on Sunday said that he cannot celebrate his victory while Greece’s flood-wrecked breadbasket is still a “wound.”
“I reached out to all Thessalians, regardless of parties, but I cannot celebrate today’s victory because Thessaly is a wound,” said Dimitris Kouretas, an independent backed by opposition SYRIZA and PASOK who beat ruling New Democracy’s incumbent Kostas Agorasτos with a comfortable 60% majority in Sunday’s runoff.
“No one can celebrate when Thessaly is a wound,” he said, vowing to “dedicate all of my physical and mental powers to healing this wound.”
