‘Time to get to work for the people of our city,’ says newly elected Thessaloniki mayor
The newly elected mayor of Thessaloniki, Stelios Angeloudis, expressed his thanks to the voters of the northern port city on Sunday night after beating the incumbent, government-backed Konstantinos Zervas, with 67% of the vote in the runoff.
“It is our responsibility now to win back their trust with work… It is time to get to work for the people of our city,” said Angeloudis, who had come just 1.5% ahead of his rival in the first round of voting last Sunday.
“We turned a page, we are writing history together, for a better day-to-day life, for more care and more action,” said the newly elected mayor who ran as an independent but had the unofficial support of socialist PASOK.
