Turkish, Greek ministers talking over WhatsApp
Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya said Wednesday he is consulting closely on the migration issue with Greece’s Migration and Asylum Minister Dimitris Kairidis and Bulgarian Interior Minister Kalin Stoyanov and that they communicate regularly through a WhatsApp group.
Yerlikaya said the three officials talked last week about border security and cracking down on illegal migration. He added that cooperation between the three officials is “strong” and that Turkey will not tolerate migrants crossing illegally to and from its soil.
Yerlikaya said that although migrant flows turn to the sea when land borders are effectively policed, “we will also improve our cooperation” regarding sea crossings.
Stoyanov will visit Turkey on October 10; a visit by Kairidis, who travels to Brussels Thursday to attend a Justice and Home Affairs Council, is to be scheduled.
