Swedish man sentenced to 15 years in Greek prison

A Swedish national, 40, was sentenced to 15 years in jail and fined 500,000 euros for organizing and directing the import of 190 kg of cocaine from Latin America to Sweden, an appeals criminal court in Thessaloniki decided on Thursday.

He was arrested in August 2021 in Nea Fokea, on the Halkidiki peninsula, where he was vacationing with his Greek wife.

A European arrest warrant was issued against him by Swedish authorities who asked for his extradition for trafficking cocaine and money laundering.

The Swedish detainee is involved in two cocaine trafficking cases from 2020.

According to the case file, the man was coordinating the two transports from Greece and other European countries he had traveled to (such as Germany and Denmark) via the Internet and mobile telephone applications. His collaborators are in jail in Sweden after sentencing.

The 40-year-old defendant, a father of two young children, denied any involvement and the charges, a stance he held since he was arrested. He will serve his sentence in Greek jails. [AMNA]
