Man in Zografou who threatened to open fire from apartment is arrested
The 83-year-old man who had barricaded himself in his apartment in the district of Zografou in central Athens on Thursday and was threatening to open fire was arrested.
A unit of the crime prevention and suppression team (OPKE) and a negotiator were dispatched outside an apartment building on Agias Lavras Street after police received calls from residents saying they had heard gunshots.
After about 2 hours the incident ended.
The man allegedly suffers from dementia. The license for the weapon he was holding (a rifle) had expired.
