Public health chief resigns
The head of Greece’s National Organization for Public Health (EODY) resigned on Wednesday.
According to Health Ministry sources, Theoklis Zaoutis’ departure is part of a series of administrative changes at EODY, though the exact reason why he stepped down has not been made public.
Stelios Orfanos, a professor and expert in intensive care, took over as the acting EODY chief a few days earlier, according to a decision signed by Health Minister Michalis Chrisochoidis and Alternate Health Minister Irene Agapidaki.
Zaoutis’ resignation comes amid mounting concerns over the public health hazards stemming from the widespread flooding in central Greece.
