Tsipras: Mitsotakis is ‘high priest of wiretapping’
Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is the “high priest of wiretapping,” SYRIZA leader Alexis Tsipras has said.
Speaking on the campaign trail in the northeastern city of Alexandroupoli, Tsipras appealed to the “the democratic instinct of the citizens,” urging them not to give to New Democracy a blank check in the May 21 elections for a second four-year term.
“With the wiretapping scandal, the prime minister of the country has become the high priest of wiretapping, tapping, from his office, half of the political system, the chiefs of the armed forces and not having the courage, the ethics, as it would happen in every other European country, not only to say ‘sorry’ but to say ‘I resign’.”
Referring to the Evros border fence, Tsipras said he will remove it.
He also sharply attacked the government on its stance on the issue of German World War II reparations:
“Today, the government spokesman, Akis Skertsos, said that a national demand, the claiming of German reparations for the Nazi occupation and for the occupation loan, is no longer a demand of our country.” [AMNA]
