Kikilias emphasizes benefits of tourism for Greek trade and commerce
Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias referred to the importance of Greek tourism for the growth of trade and commerce, while addressing a Hellenic Confederation of Commerce and Entrepreneurship (ESEE) event on Wednesday. He noted that it was common knowledge that the benefits from the connection of trade with the tourism sector are multiple, and thus the findings of an ESEE study on this topic were very important.
Especially for Athens, Kikilias expressed the opinion that the contribution of high spender visitors, such as Americans, invigorated the turnover of shops and other businesses.
The Greeks, said Kikilias, have commerce as part of their DNA since ancient times, as a maritime people. The Greeks have also hospitality in their blood and for this reason tourists come back to Greece again and again, he added.
Focusing on the interconnection of trade and tourism, Kikilias noted that the Greek National Tourism Organization (GNTO) will sign a Memorandum of Cooperation aiming at the targeted promotion of “Shopping in Greece.” [AMNA]
