Sakellaropoulou receives visiting Albanian premier
The ethnic Greek minority in Albania and the members of the Albanian community in Greece act as a bridge of cooperation between the two countries, President Katerina Sakellaropoulou told Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama on Tuesday.
Receiving the Albanian premier at the Presidential Mansion in Athens, Sakellaropoulou underlined the importance of cooperation for the resolution of open issues, including the issue of the maritime zones, based on the international law and good unneighborly relations, in a manner that befits two democratic and neighboring countries and future partners in EU.
She also noted that Greece remains a stable supporter of the European prospects of the Western Balkans, expressing her certainty that Albania will rapidly meet the requirements needed in order to become full member of the EU.
On his part, Rama said that Greece constitutes an example for all in the region and an advocate for the Western Balkans in EU. He expressed his satisfaction over the friendly relations between the two peoples, adding that the agreement to have recourse to the Hague over the delimitation of the maritime zones proves Albania and Greece’s will to resolve the bilateral issues.
He agreed with the President on the importance of the ethnic Greek minority in Albania and of the Albanian community in Greece, pointing out that the strong ties between the two countries are also due to them.
Finally, Rama expressed his condolences for the tragic train accident in Tempi. [AMNA]
