Police arrest two, seize thousands of contraband cigarettes in Thessaloniki
Authorities arrested two suspected members of a tobacco smuggling racket and seized thousands of contraband cigarettes in a police operation in Thessaloniki, northern Greece, on Monday morning.
The two suspects, aged 48 and 44, were caught in the area of Neapoli while one of them was delivering a box of contraband packs of cigarettes to the other.
Officers discovered 22,159 cigarette packs in boxes in raids carried out in a garage used by the 44-year-old for storage, in a truck parked in the aforementioned area, in the same suspect’s house in Kordelio and in the cars used by the two men. They also found 751 euros.
The two men were led before a prosecutor and are facing charges of violating customs law and forgery.
