Human bones found in sunken car in Corfu port
Human remains belonging to a man were found in a car in the port of Corfu island on Monday that was recovered from the bottom of the harbor.
The sunken car was spotted by crew members from a Corfu-Igoumenitsa ferry who informed the port authority. According to the sunken car’s chassis number, the vehicle belonged to a man born in 1964, who had disappeared from his village in northern Corfu about 10 years ago.
His mother had reported the disappearance to the police at the time.
According to initial estimates, the car had been at the bottom of the sea for at least two years.
The port officials called in a forensic expert to conduct an autopsy on the remains.
