Air force pilot killed in F-4 crash laid to rest
The funeral was held Friday in the village of Granitis, near the northern Greek town of Drama, of a Hellenic Air Force pilot who was killed after his combat aircraft crashed in the Ionian Sea.
The F-4E Phantom II of Captain Efstathios Tsitlakidis, 31, went down during a training exercise Monday. Co-pilot, Lieutenant Marios Touroutsikas, 29, also died in the accident.
Friday’s funeral service was attended by President Katerina Sakellaropoulou, Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis, Defense Minister Nikos Panagiotopoulos and leading opposition officials.
Touroutsikas was laid to rest Thursday in the southern town of Tripoli.
