Police make two arrests over deadly school boiler blast
Police in Serres, northern Greece, have made two arrests in relation to the deadly explosion of a school boiler in which an 11-year-old boy was killed and two other pupils, aged 6 and 10, were injured.
A police statement said the two people arrested were responsible for the conversion of the school’s heating system into a geothermal heat pump.
It is understood one of the arrested men is the 52-year-old contractor of the conversion project and the other a 43-year-old electrician.
The case file accuses them of manslaughter through negligence, grievous bodily harm through negligence as well as causing an explosion through by negligence.
The 11-year-old boy was killed when the school’s oil-fired boiler exploded during recess and sent the boiler room’s metal door flying across the playground, where it struck him on the head. [AMNA]
