Piraeus man, 25, shoots and kills girlfriend, 19
Another femicide was added to the gruesome list of murders of women by their partners on Saturday, after a 25-year-old man in Piraeus shot and killed his 19-year-old girlfriend and then turned himself in.
According to reports, the man called the police to report the crime, admitting that he was obsessively jealous and under the influence of drugs. The incident reportedly occurred after the 19-year-old woman returned from work and got into a heated argument sparked by a jealous outburst from the perpetrator, who pulled out a gun and shot her in the head.
According to the World Health Organization, violence against women encompasses a wide range of acts from verbal harassment, to everyday emotional, physical, or sexual abuse. A large percentage of femicides are against women in abusive relationships and are committed by their current or a former partner.
