Teacher evaluations look headed for postponement
The task of implementing the much-touted evaluation process of some 150,000 Greek school teachers is reportedly essentially being deferred to the next government.
The delay in the procedures for the appointment of evaluators, combined with the expected reactions of the teachers’ federations and teachers’ associations, is expected to lead to the procedure’s postponement.
Indicatively, even the evaluation of the school units has provoked reactions. Although it was finally carried out after 40 years, teachers’ unions are questioning its actual results.
The prospect of postponement is reinforced by the fact that if the process begins in the current school year, it will also coincide with the election period. Reports indicate that the intention of the Education Ministry is for evaluations to begin in installments, starting with newly appointed teachers, who by law must be evaluated before they are made permanent.
