Two arrested in large drug haul near Ioannina
Police on Wednesday arrested two men and seized almost 375 kilos of cannabis hidden in a van driven by one of the suspects at a village in northwestern Greece, authorities said Thursday.
The drugs were discovered when officers stopped a van driven by an Albanian national at the village of Miliotades, northeast of the town of Ioannina, and found 85 packages of cannabis weighting a total of 374 kilos and 850 grams. The van had been stolen from Attica in July 2020.
Thirteen kilometers after Miliotades, officers also arrested a 60-year-old Greek national from Ioannina who was driving ahead to warn his alleged accomplice about possible police check points.
Authorities also seized the two vehicles, five mobile phones and 390 euros.
The two suspects will be led before a prosecutor later in the day to face charges of violation of drug laws.
