Public diplomacy set to get online upgrade
The Foreign Ministry will make a concerted effort to promote Greek positions on online platforms, unifying the often scattered efforts of individual embassies and consulates across the globe.
This public diplomacy effort will revolve around two different, but complementary tasks: on the one, promoting Greek positions, for example in cases of conflict with Turkey, or what Greece considers fake news on migration; on the other, presenting positive news about Greece, its cultural heritage, tourist destinations and investment opportunities.
The ministry’s strategy will rely heavily on multimedia, and on taking advantage of the various platforms’ different strengths: Thus, for example, headlines will be posted on Twitter, fuller texts on Facebook, and as Twitter links, and photos and videos on Instagram.
A crisis response team will also respond to false claims about Greece in real time.
