Probe launched into lawyer’s Nazi salute
The head of the Athens Prosecutor’s Office, Antonis Eleftherianos, on Thursday ordered a preliminary inquiry after a lawyer defending MEP Giannis Lagos, a convicted member of Golden Dawn, gave a Nazi salute in court.
The investigation, which is based on the provisions of Greece’s anti-racism legislation, was assigned to prosecutor Maria Karamanoli.
Konstantinos Plevris, 82, a former politician and author of Holocaust-denying literature, is the father of conservative Health Minister Thanos Plevris, who on Tuesday issued a statement condemning the action of his father.
The incident has also prompted disciplinary proceedings within the Athens Bar Association.
