Few foreign researchers in Greek universities
Greek universities trail all member-countries of the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) in attracting research students from abroad, according to the organization’s annual education report.
Of the foreign students studying at Greek universities, 97 percent do so through the Erasmus student exchange programs, targeted at undergraduate students, usually for a period of a year or less in another country.
Only 1.5 percent of the foreign students who choose to study in Greece are working on doctoral dissertations; most are from neighboring countries. Local universities have yet to tap the growing Asian market.
