Death of mother brings daughter’s plight to light
The death of a 76-year-old woman in Larisa, central Greece, has prompted an investigation into the situation of her 51-year-old daughter, who lived with her and is said to have never left the house in 42 years.
According to a report in the Eleftheria newspaper on Tuesday, the 76-year-old was found by a relative lying dead in the entrance to her home, apparently after returning from a shopping trip.
Questioning the 76-year-old’s daughter about the circumstances that may have led to her death, police reportedly learned that the younger woman, aged 51, has not left the house since she was 9 years old.
The 51-year-old appears to be fully aware of her situation, but will be questioned by social services and a mental health professional so her condition can be properly assessed and her future living arrangements organized.
The police, meanwhile, is investigating the 76-year-old’s death in order to ascertain whether it was due to natural or other causes.
