Woman killed by partner in ninth such crime this year
A 50-year-old Georgian woman was murdered by her partner in the northern city of Thessaloniki Monday afternoon. It was the ninth incident involving the murder of a woman by her partner this year. Police have launched manhunt for the suspect, who is also Georgian.
Neighbors said they had heard a heated argument between the victim and the perpetrator, who had fled the scene before police arrived.
According to local website Thestival.gr, neighbors heard the woman scream, pleading, “Please do not kill me,” and the sounds of a beating, which turned out to be fatal.
Greek police data revealed that in the first 15 days of August, it received 554 complaints of domestic violence incidents nationwide. A total of 332 people were arrested on the spot on domestic violence charges. The remaining cases went to trial. Domestic violence is prosecuted ex officio.
