Heavy rain hits capital as weather turns
Pedestrians cross the road in central Athens amid a downpour on Monday. Following several weeks of unseasonably mild weather, the temperature fell Monday, with rainfall and storms spreading across the country. Meteorologists forecast strong storms in central and southern parts of the country, which were expected to reach the central Aegean and Dodecanese islands by the end of the day. Over the weekend heavy rain in the north of the country caused widespread damage, leading to the death of a 55-year-old British tourist whose car was swept away by floodwaters.
