Athens marks 73rd anniversary of liberation from Nazis
Members of the Greek Presidential Guard present arms on the Acropolis Hill Thursday during a ceremony marking the 73rd anniversary of the liberation of Athens from Nazi occupation during World War Two. In comments in front of the Parthenon, Interior Minister Panos Skourletis said that the ceremony was being held to “safeguard the memory of a great people who not only endured three-and-a-half years of painful occupation but emerged stronger and perhaps more innocent despite the hardship of the times.” [AP]
