Medical workers protest in Athens
Health workers burn copies of their degrees in a symbolic act to express their opposition with the government’s reforms in the public health sector, outside the Health Ministry in Athens, Friday. Nurses and paramedics are complaining that new legislation disregards their academic qualifications and lumps them together with midwives and nursing assistants, who are not required to have the same university degrees. Their union, PASYNO-ESY, had also called a 24-hour strike Friday. [Orestis Panagiotou/EPA]
