Ferry workers up the ante after terms aren’t met
Members of the Panhellenic Seamen’s Union, PNO, take part in a rally at the port of Piraeus on Monday, as ferries across the country remained tied up for a fourth day. The union is calling on the government not to scrap a lower tax for seamen and to halt plans to merge their social security fund with others. Following an inconclusive meeting with Shipping Minister Panayiotis Kouroublis, PNO on Monday said it will be launching a fresh 48-hour walkout today, which will result in the country’s islands being cut off from the mainland for a full week.
