Tower of the Winds opens to the public after restoration
A young boy stares at the Tower of the Winds at the foot of the Acropolis in central Athens, Wednesday. The octagonal marble clocktower, which is believed to have been erected by Macedonian astronomer Andronicus of Cyrrhus in the late 1st century BC, has been made accessible to the public for the first time in the history of the modern Greek state, following extensive restoration work, the Ministry of Culture said yesterday. The project was carried out with funds from the European Union’s 2007-13 NSRF/ESPA program. [ANA-MPA]
