Thessaloniki bus company employees on strike

A bus stop in central Thessaloniki stands empty during a strike by the 2,300 employees of the northern port city’s bus service who are demanding back pay for June and July. Thessaloniki’s half-million commuters will be deprived of their local bus service again Wednesday and on Friday, when employees will decide whether to take further action. Dimitris Tsermenidis, president of the employees’ union, said that management is paying only for fuel, social security and VAT, which come to 95 million euros, whereas the state owes the company more than 130 million euros and refuses to pay.
