Dozens of blazes stretch fire service
A firefighter tries to contain a wildfire near the town of Nafplio, in the Peloponnese, on Saturday. The fire, which broke out on rough terrain, was stoked by strong winds. Also on Saturday, firemen, aided by a water-dumping helicopter, battled a blaze that was threatening a residential area in Erythres, northwest of Athens. The fire service was called in to deal with some 70 blazes over the weekend. Civil protection authorities warn against any activities in the outdoors involving fire such as campfires, barbeques and brush burning. [ANA-MPA]
