Port workers keep the heat on with Piraeus protest
Greek port workers take part in a demonstration in Piraeus Thursday, the second day of a two-day strike. The workers object to the government’s plans to privatize the country’s two biggest ports, in Piraeus and Thessaloniki, northern Greece. Rolling strikes by the workers over the past weeks have created problems for cargo ships and cruise liners. Part of the government’s sell-off plans include granting a 67 percent stake in the Piraeus Port Authority (OLP) to Chinese logistics giant Cosco Pacific, which already has a large presence at the port.
