Maintenance of underwater antiquities in Athens
A photo released Monday shows a preserver maintaining a pithos (storage container) of the 12th century BC found in a shipwreck near the isle of Leontari, southeast of the Peloponnese, at the Department of Underwater Antiquities of the Ministry of Culture in Athens. The department was established in 1976 and its mission is to protect and promote the country's underwater antiquities. [Orestis Panagiotou/EPA]
