Thessaloniki’s Nikis Avenue to become seaside promenade on Sunday
Authorities in the northern port city of Thessaloniki will be closing off coastal Nikis Avenue to traffic this Sunday in a bid to invite residents to enjoy a rare opportunity to stroll along the seaside without the hindrance of cars. The stretch, which will run from the corner with Venizelou Street to the emblematic White Tower, will be closed to traffic from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. as part of an initiative of the Municipality of Thessaloniki to give the beautiful coastal stretch over to pedestrians once a month. The initiative has been extremely successful on previous occasions, with thousands of Thessaloniki residents taking the opportunity to enjoy a stroll and performances by street artists put on for the day.
