Sweet! Greek sugar-making plant back in business

The Oresteiada unit of Hellenic Sugar Industry, the country's sole sugar producer, has gone back into business after a year-long shutdown. Production at the plant started with 60,000 tons of beets from the regions of Evros and Rodopi. Before getting into financial straits in 2007, the state-owned monopoly employed over 1,000 staff.
