Greek honey production plummets due to climate change

A beekeeper uses smoke to calm the bees as he removes hive frames in Arnaia, Halkidiki, northern Greece in the final days of the honey harvest before winter. Honey production in Greece is projected to be at least 50% lower than in previous years, primarily due to a water crisis caused by prolonged drought and consecutive heatwaves. “This year, we expect to collect 200-300 tons of honey, while on average in previous years, we produced 500-600 tons,” Dimitris Mitsiaras, the local cooperative director, told the Athens-Macedonian News Agency.  [EPA]
