Thunderstorms on their way
The unprecedented summer weather conditions that prevailed until Wednesday throughout Greece gave way to heavy rain, which flooded streets of the western port city of Patra, on Thursday. Serious problems were also caused both on the old national road and the new Patra-Corinth highway, where landslides occurred. One woman’s car was swept away by a torrent under the Rio-Antirrio bridge; she was rescued by another driver. Heavy rain fell in Athens too, causing traffic congestion in the center. The National Meteorological Service has issued an emergency weather bulletin as the weather will deteriorate in most areas from Friday afternoon until noon on Sunday with heavy rain, thunderstorms and hailstorms and strong winds. The weather will initially impact the northwest and west, before moving to the northeast, the eastern Aegean and the Dodecanese. [Shutterstock]
