Zenetos, an architect from the future
The open-air amphitheater on Lycabettus Hill, designed by modernist architect Takis Zenetos (1926-1977), is seen during construction in the mid-1960s. Reminiscent of a radio telescope, the design is testament to the innovative, visionary and often futuristic character of Zenetos’ architectural legacy, which also includes the Round School at the Athens suburb Agios Dimitrios and the Fix Brewery, now home to the National Museum of Contemporary Art. The legacy of Zenetos, also an early advocate of digital technology, is reviewed in a new book, titled “Takis Ch. Zenetos, 2022,” featuring unpublished archival material and critical essays.
