Bourse drops below 2,300 pts

The Athens bourse lost 2.7 percent yesterday as late-session selling dragged the benchmark general index below the 2,300-point mark. The benchmark general index ended at 2,276.47 points, marginally off session lows. Banks dropped 3.98 percent after sliding 3.1 percent on Monday. National Bank was among the big losers, falling 4.25 percent to 19.60 euros and Marfin Popular Bank tumbled 6.67 percent to 2.24 euros. Pharmaceutical company Alapis fell 10 percent to 0.63 euros. Coca-Cola Hellenic bucked the trend, adding 1.02 percent to 15.85 euros. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index dropped 3.24 percent to 1,177.20 points. Turnover reached 164.3 million euros versus 128 million in the previous session.
