Men more downbeat on housing

Men are more pessimistic than women about the course of the housing market in Thessaloniki, according to a recent university study which found that most of the city’s residents are upbeat about the sector in the coming year. The survey, put together by the Athens University of Economics and Business, found that 20 percent of men believe prices will fall sharply in the next 12 months as opposed to just 10 percent of the women questioned. The study surveyed a total of 1,048 people in Thessaloniki, Greece’s second-largest city. The majority of residents (76.4 percent) replied that they are optimistic about the housing market in the short term, believing that prices will remain stable, or even move upward. Four in 10 believe residential property prices in their area will rise. Despite the optimism, about two-thirds of residents questioned do not expect to purchase a property in the coming five years.
