Larissa mall targets 6 mln visitors a year

Crowds gathered at the opening of a shopping mall in Larissa, central Greece, as the country’s retail landscape begins to change beyond Athens and Thessaloniki. Called the Gaea Lifestyle Center, the 8-million- euro mall that opened late Tuesday offers more than 50 stores and restaurants along with 240 parking spaces. Some 6 million people are expected to visit it every year. Greece’s retail areas have been transforming quickly as indoor malls take the place of traditional shopping districts. Commercial property development for the purpose of creating shopping malls is expected to be a growth driver this year for the real estate sector, which is feeling the pinch of higher interest rates.
