Rebound was rather limited
The rebound that had been forecast on the local market after the bailout of the American International Group (AIG) in the USA was more moderate than expected yesterday, as stocks lost most of the day’s gains by the end of the session. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 2,957.92 points yesterday, a rise of 0.83 percent from Wednesday. However, by mid-session it had reached 3,027.05 points. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index grew by 0.59 percent to 1,608.86 points. Among blue chips the biggest gains were for Alpha Bank (up 4.15 percent), ATEbank (3.81 percent) and Viohalco (3.64 percent). Worst off were the stocks of Motor Oil (down 3.89 percent) and Bank of Cyprus (2.84 percent). Turnover came to 272 million euros.
