Blue chips stay up in correction

Most stocks posted a correction yesterday after Monday’s meteoric rise, but blue chips remained afloat thanks to a late surge by Public Power Corporation (PPC), keeping the main index at the same levels. The Athens Exchange (ATHEX) general index closed at 3,276.56 points yesterday, a marginal 0.05 percent rise from Monday. The blue chip FTSE/ATHEX 20 index advanced by 0.21 percent to 1,819.71 points. However, the mid-cap and small-cap indices ended with losses. PPC gained a significant 6.03 percent to outperform among blue chips, while Coca-Cola HBC rose by 3.97 percent and Bank of Cyprus gained 3.03 percent. By contrast, Motor Oil declined by 2.84 percent, Hellenic Postbank lost 2.68 percent to close at a record low and Hellenic Petroleum dropped by 2.45 percent. Turnover reached 215.4 million euros.
