Conference on enterprise under way
Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis opened a two-day conference on entrepreneurship in Athens yesterday. ‘We are obliged to prove that competitiveness in the European economy can be strengthened in a manner that suits the profile of Europe and its civilization,’ said Karamanlis. ‘To achieve this, we need to address entrepreneurship in the broader sense of the term, something which is very difficult.’ Research has shown that Greece is one of the most expensive countries in the European Union for business start-ups in terms of capital and completing legal and licensing procedures. Among the biggest obstacles facing entrepreneurs is government bureaucracy.
