ASE recoups Tuesday’s losses; small-caps shine

Stocks gained significantly yesterday on the Athens Stock Exchange (ASE), this time following the trend in other European markets. The ASE composite share price index closed at 4,198.73 points, a gain of 45.04 points or 1.08 percent. The FTSE/Athex 20 index of blue chips gained 0.99 percent to close at 2,260.68 points, while mid- and small-caps gained 1.08 percent and 2.38 percent respectively. The FTSE/Athex International index gained 1.12 percent, closing at 5,854.91 points. Top blue chip gainers were mobile telecommunications service provider Cosmote (up 4.28 percent to 19.96 euros), metals group Viohalco (3.61 percent to 8.60 euros), technology holding company Intracom (2.21 percent to 6.48 euros), EFG Eurobank (2.06 percent to 31.70 euros), betting company OPAP (1.72 percent to 29.50 euros) and bottler Coca-Cola HBC (1.68 percent to 26.68 euros). By contrast, significant losses were sustained by Duty Free Shops (down 4.55 percent to 15.12 euros), refiner Motor Oil (2 percent to 24.50 euros), jewelry maker and retailer Folli-Follie (1.59 percent to 23.58 euros) and electronics retailer Germanos (1.01 percent to 17.64 euros) Out of 312 traded shares, 214 gained, 58 declined and 40 ended unchanged. Turnover reached 459.76 million euros, including 203.05 million in prearranged trades.
