Conference cancellations take heavy toll
Cancellations and postponements of international events in Greece due to the pandemic came to more than 95% in 2020, according to the first nationwide research carried out jointly, in the first fortnight of July, by the Hellenic Association of Professional Congress Organizers (HAPCO), the Athens Convention & Visitors Bureau (ACVB) and the Thessaloniki Convention Bureau (TCB).
A total of 122 companies of this specific sector from across Greece were surveyed. The consequences of cancellations and postponements are estimated to have led to a 76% reduction in turnover for conferences and events companies. Hotels that host such activities saw a 69% reduction in turnover.
